　　本作是“北欧女神”系列第二作,也是系列首次采用了全3D画面表现，游戏画面十分华丽。本作故事发生在前作的数百年前，那时在前作中已经毁灭的迪邦市还非常繁荣。

　　撒玛利亚是主神奥丁旗下的女战神之一，因而某事件而与奥丁倒戈，结果被奥丁强制转生为人类。撒玛利亚的灵魂附身到了迪邦王国公主艾莉莎身上。原本撒玛利亚应该是一直沉睡在艾莉莎体内，直到下次再被召唤，然而不知何故，撒玛利亚的灵魂开始再艾莉莎体内觉醒，从而形成了两个灵魂同居一体的状态。撒玛利亚意识到奥丁势必会对其被封印的意识觉醒而加以干涉，于是开始与艾莉莎进行灵魂的交流。这种交流表现出来的奇怪状态被周围的人所察觉，艾莉莎因此被国王囚禁到古堡中。而撒玛利亚的行动也被奥丁察觉，并派出了战神三姐妹的长女阿莉前来……

　　本作引入全新的“光子系统”，这相当于前作的晶石系统，将其击中敌人可以令对方无法动弹，此时再次使用光子就可以与敌人交换位置。光子的作用还有很多。在战斗方面本作继承了“高级战术组合系统”，通过掌握时机按键的方式发动连续技和必杀技。
